Occupational medical examinations (such as the G 26) serve to determine whether theActivity endangering the worker.The aim of a G 26 investigation is therefore not the suitability of the firefighter forRespiratory protection.

The physical suitability of respirator wearers must be determined and monitored by occupational medical check-ups in accordance with the occupational safety principle "G 26 Respiratory protective devices" (see ArbMedVV, Appendix Part 4, BGV A 4 and GuV-V A 4 and Fire Service Code "Respiratory Protection" (FwDV 7)) ,
TARGET GROUP
  • Wearers of dust masks with filter class FFP 1 2 are offered the check-up according to G 26.1.
  • Respirator wearers who work under a filter device (device weight up to 5 kg) or if the airway resistance is increased must be examined in accordance with G 26 Group 2.
  • Carriers of self-contained breathing apparatus (eg compressed air breathing apparatus - container units with compressed air exceeding 5 kg) must be examined in accordance with G 26 Group 3.
  • Carriers carrying filter devices exclusively for escape and self-rescue need not be examined in accordance with G 26.
  • Occupational health examinations in accordance with G 26 must be carried out by a physician with the area designation "occupational medicine" or with the additional term "occupational medicine". This also issues the medical certificate.
The initial examinations for G 26.2 and G 26.3 are carried out before the activity starts. The following follow-up examination periods apply:
  • for equipment carriers up to 50 years before the expiry of 36 months,
  • filter equipment carriers over 50 years before the expiry of 24 months,
  • in carriers of self-contained devices over 50 years before the end of 12 months.
